GED Testing

 Mississippi Delta Community College is authorized by the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges to offer the GED test.  The GED test is offered on the third (3rd) Saturday of each month at the MDCC campus. 

 Each participant must attend GED testing orientation prior to the test.

 Cost of the GED:

            Initial Testing (5 parts) -            $40.00

            Retesting -                                $12.00 per subject area

 Requirements:

In order to be eligible to take the GED test, an individual must meet the following requirement:

  • Must have a current photo identification that shows name, address, date of birth, and signature (driver's licenses, passports, military papers, or other forms of government (national or foreign).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must attend an orientation session.
  • Must have been out of school 3 months, or his/her regular high school class has graduated.
  • Must be a resident of Mississippi for at least 30 days or on active duty in Armed Forces.
  • Minors accepted only under very unusual circumstances (must get approval from the Chief Examiner).
 The GED Tests:

The GED Tests consist of content area tests in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.  The tests also measure communication, information-processing, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.  A rigorous exam, this battery of five tests measures the outcomes and skills of a four-year program of secondary education in the core content areas of U.S. and Canadian high school curricula.

            Test 1 - Language Arts, Writing

                        Part I                50 questions - time limit 75 minutes

                        Part II              Essay - time limit 45 minutes

            Test 2 - Language Arts, Reading

                        40 questions - time limit 65 minutes

            Test 3 - Science

                        50 questions - time limit 80 minutes

            Test 4 - Social Studies

                        50 questions - time limit 70 minutes

            Test 5 - Mathematics

                        Part I                25 questions with optional use of calculator - time limit 45 minutes

                        Part II              25 questions without a calculator - time limit 45 minutes

Required minimum test scores:

An average standard score of 450 on all five tests and a standard score of 410 on each of the five tests.

 You may retake the same section of the test only two times during a calendar year.

 It is recommended that all individuals interested in taking the GED test, attend an ABE/GED class to take the official GED practice test.  The GED practice test can be given each Friday at the MDCC "on campus" class at 8:00 - 12:00.  If the score on the Practice Test indicates more skills are needed for success on the test, the individual may enroll in one of the ABE/GED classes.

 To apply:
  • Download and print the GED Application and sign in front of a Notary Public.
  • Bring the completed GED application to the ABE/GED Complex located in the Career-Technical Center .
  • Upon receiving the completed GED application, the applicant is required to attend an orientation/registration session.  Applicant will receive information on orientation via mail once completed application is received.
  • Testing date will be assigned once orientation is completed.
