Mississippi Delta Community College has hired former Trojans catcher Sid Naron to skipper its baseball team this coming season. Naron replaces Head Coach Bryan Nobile who resigned this week.

Nobile, who is getting married this month, will be moving to Crystal Springs following the wedding.

“Coaching the MDCC Trojans this past year was a dream come true and I will miss both the college and the players. I want to thank everyone for the opportunity of coaching at my alma mater and wish nothing but the best for the program. MDCC baseball is on its way back to the top and I have every confidence in Coach Naron,” Nobile said.

Naron, 27, who was Nobile’s assistant this season, is a Cleveland native and a graduate of Bayou Academy. While at Bayou, he was an All-Conference catcher his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was named the Best Defensive Player for 1998 and 1999 and MVP his senior year in 1999. He was also a member of the Academy All-Star Team in 1999 and was named Player Of The Year by the Bolivar Commercial.

He was also a member of the Colts football team earning All-Conference honors as a strong safety his junior and senior years. He was named the Best Defensive Player his junior year and Most Valuable Player his senior year and helped the Colts win the North Division Championship. He was also named Best Defensive Player in basketball his senior year helping Bayou win the Conference Championship.

Naron played baseball at Mississippi Delta Community College from 1999 through 2001 under coach Terry Thompson. The catcher helped the Trojans win the MACJC State Championship in 2001 and was honored with the Sophomore Award.

He went on to earn his BS in General Studies and his Masters in Sports Management from Delta State University. He was the Statesmen’s catcher during the 2002 and 2003 seasons and helped DSU win the Region Championship and finish third in the Division II World Series in 2002 and win the Gulf South Championship in 2003.

Naron was an Assistant Coach at MDCC under Terry Thompson in 2004 and a graduate assistant at DSU during the 2006-07 season. He was also an instructor and coach at Dulin’s Sports Academy (Cordova, TN) in 2004.

“I appreciate Mississippi Delta Community College for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to the coming season. As a former player and assistant coach I have a clear understanding of the Trojans’ winning baseball tradition and will do my best to keep that tradition going,” he said.
