Mississippi Delta Splits With Co-Lin

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans trounced the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves for the second time this season with a 69-45 win at home Monday night while the Lady Trojans fell for the second time to the Lady Wolves 78-59.

The Trojans came out firing treys in the first half scoring 18 of their 28 points from beyond the arc. The half ended with the Trojans up 28-20.

They added six more three-pointers in the second half with sophomore guard Darius Dukes pouring in 6/9 treys and four buckets of the two point variety for a game high 26 points. In all, the Trojans drained 11/24 three-pointers with freshman Jaylen Ford hitting 3/5 and Travon Harper and Zarmarlus Griffin adding one each.

The Wolves, 2-5 overall, cut Delta’s lead to 28-26 early in the second half but four treys and three minutes later the Trojans were up by 16 and never looked back. The biggest lead of the game was a 26 point margin with under a minute remaining.

Both Griffin and Ford ended the game with 13 points each, good enough for second game high scorer status. The best the Wolves could muster was two players with 10 points each. Sophomore forward Ondarious Hamlin was game high rebounder with 11 take downs for the night.

The win puts the Trojans’ record at .500 with four wins and four losses. The women’s loss drops them to 2-6 overall.

The Lady Trojans seemed on their way to avenging an early season loss to Co-Lin at Wesson after they led almost the entire first half, at one point by as many as 12 points, 23-11. But the Lady Wolves fought back to lead by one, 31-30, at the break.

The second half was all Co-Lin as the Lady Wolves pushed their lead out to double digits at the nine minute mark and led by as many as 19 points, 73-54, at the three minute mark.

Sophomore guard Antonique McGee led the Lady Trojans in scoring with 14 points. She was followed in double figures by sophomore guard Aqueshia Kimble with 12 points. Kimble also scored a double/double with 10 rebounds on the night.

The Deltans are off for the remainder of the week. They will play their final game of the year next Monday night at home as they open up North Division play on December 8th against northeast Community College. Game times are 6 & 8 p.m.
