MDCC splits with Co-Lin on the court

Mississippi Delta Community College’s basketball teams split with visiting opponent Copiah-Lincoln Community College Thursday night at J.T. Hall Coliseum. The Lady Trojans slipped to 0-2 after falling 51-99 to the Lady Wolves, but the men ended the night with their second win of the season after a nail-biting finish of 69-65.

In the woman’s game, sophomore forward McKinnon Skeen led the team in scoring with 16 points. The Cleveland, Miss. native was 5-of-10 from the field, with all five being three-point shots.

Sophomore guard Racquel Harper led the team in free throws making 3-of-4 and recorded four assists on the night. Clarksdale native Jasmine Jackson tallied the top number of rebounds on the night with five. The Lady Trojans ended the game making 38 percent of shots.

In the men’s competition, the Trojans went to half-time with a 12-point lead, but allowed the Wolves to make a run at an unsuccessful comeback late in the second half.

Travon Harper led the Trojans with 21 points, making 8-of-9 from the field. Harper was 100 percent on free throws and led the team with five rebounds. Collectively the team made 49 percent from the field and made 75 percent of free throws.

Jaylen Ford and Dantaveous Crawford both were 3-of-6 from the field scoring 11 and 10 points respectfully.

Both teams are slated to play at Southwest Community College on Monday with the women tipping off at 5 p.m. The next home double header will by Thursday, Nov. 12 starting at 5 p.m. Follow us on Twitter at MDCCATHLETICS for live updates during both competitions.
