Lady Trojans fall to Northwest, men get big win

MOORHEAD – Despite sophomore guard Racquel Harper’s double-double, including a career high 23 points, the Lady Trojans lost 90-73 to the Lady Rangers of Northwest Monday night.

MDCC held their own in the first half a play, going to the locker room down by seven. The Lady Trojans never led in the contest, but out scored the Lady Rangers 18-16 in the second period.

Northwest had a commanding 20-point lead in the second half that MDCC could not come back from.

Harper led the team with 23 points making 8 of 16 field goals and was 5 of 7 from the stripe. She also tallied 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Kenya Arnold also had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Sara Lytle had a double double for Northwest recording 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Derrick Fears’ Trojan basketball team went on a 16-point scoring spree to start the game. They didn’t allow Northwest to score until four minutes into the first half.

The teams were evenly matched and highly physical from start to finish with each team having a player foul out.

For the Trojans, sophomore center Travon Harper led the team with 17 points making 7 of 12 front the field and was 100 percent from the free throw line. He racked up seven rebounds on the night. Sophomores Dantaveous Crawford and Willie Brunson weren’t far behind Harper with 14 and 13 points respectfully.

Both teams travel to Goodman today to take on Holmes Community College.
