Basketball season comes to an end for both squads

MOORHEAD - Both the women and men’s squads played their last games of the seasons Thursday night against Coahoma CC at J.T. Hall Coliseum.

Coach Burnadette McDonald’s women caged the Lady Tigers the entire first half and took a commanding 35-16 lead into the locker room at the break.

The second half of the game slowly got away from MDCC as Coahoma made a comeback and outscored the Lady Trojans 50-31 in the half to tie the game at 66 and send it to overtime.

The extra period would be a back and forth affair with Coahoma sinking a short floater with under one second left to win it 76-75.

She was 9 of 14 from the field and made 3 of 4 three pointers and was 100 percent from the stripe. She pulled down 11 rebounds. On the night, the team made 44.1 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.

The men’s game was a physical contest that also consisted of a cat and mouse scoring game, but ended with MDCC recording the win by a score of 74-67.

The Trojans squeaked out of the first half of play with a 32-27 lead. They would carry that momentum through the second half with help from Sophomore Dantaveous Crawford, who had a season high night in scoring with 32 points.
