MOORHEAD – Mississippi Delta Community College welcomes Dan Rives as its new head baseball coach. Rives was approved by the MDCC Board of Trustees during its July 14 meeting.

Rives has been the assistant baseball coach at Hinds Community College since 2005 and also served as the college’s sports information director since 2007.

Rives is a Cleveland native and graduated from Cleveland High School. He started his college baseball career at MDCC and played infield for the Trojans.

He went on to play at Delta State University and Mississippi College (MC). He received a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and a minor in health from MC in 2005 and a Masters of Arts with a major in social science from there in 2007.

At Hinds, he was the recruiting coordinator and in charge of strength and conditioning for the program. He also worked with the Eagles’ infielders and assisted with hitters and base runners.

“I’m very excited to come back home. This is home for me and my wife and to be offered the head coaching position at a college I played for is extra special to me,” says Rives.

Rives helped lead Hinds to three Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championships in 2010, 2012 and 2015.

“It’s great to have Dan on board as our new head baseball coach,” says Athletic Director Domino Bellipanni. It’s always nice to have a former Trojan return as a part our college family and community.”

Rives is married to Andrea Atchley Rives and they have an eight-year-old daughter, Madelyn, and a four-year-old son, Luke.

Rives replaces former head coach Michael Avalon who accepted the head coaching position at Pearl River Community College.
