Many browsers will work with the Blackboard delivery system. The preferred browser is Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer. Netscape 4.7 or newer will also work, but IE does a better job in all areas, especially in the on-line testing areas.

We caution AOL users about their browser. Most ISP's(internet service providers) run a program that watches for inactivity. If a customer leaves the computer to do something else and leaves it connected, the isp will notice the lack of activity. Most of them will then disconnect you to free up bandwidth for other users. The AOL Browser actually closes itself when it disconnects. Other isp's do not do this. When you are taking an on-line quiz, there is no internet activity detected by the isp. Therefore, you are frequently disconnected at this time. This is not a problem with most isp's. You simply click on the computers at the bottom right of your screen and reconnect, then submit the quiz. If you are using AOL and this happens, the browser itself will close and you will lose your quiz. When this happens, it is not retrievable. You can use your AOL Dialup, and open a second browser to do your Blackboard work.
