AID TYPES

MDCC SCHOLARSHIPS

Limited funds are available for institutional scholarships and MDCC strives to provide eligible scholars with funds to cover as much of the actual costs as possible. Students applying for multiple institutionally funded scholarships should be aware that certain institutional scholarships can not be combined. In some cases, when combined with other aid (federal and state and other institutional), the actual amount of one or more scholarships may be reduced. The individual scholarship descriptions will provide specific information regarding "stacking" institutional scholarships. Scholarship eligibility is established based on the published deadline. The student who achieves the academic criteria for an institutional scholarship after the beginning of an academic year may apply for institutional scholarships for the next academic year. The student who will be attending MDCC for the first time in the spring semester may apply for institutional scholarships for the following academic year.

MDCC SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

. ACT Score 25 (minimum) and a B average on high school transcript (first-time entering freshmen) or a 3.0 on transfer credit (minimum 12 hours of earned college credit) or rank in the upper 20 th percentile (570 or above cumulative average) on the GED. Limited scholarships are available for full-time students who meet these academic requirements, who have not completed the requirements for an associate degree or a bachelor's degree, and are Mississippi residents. The Presidential Scholarship for the on-campus student may be up to full tuition and room/board (a book allowance is not included). The Presidential Scholarship award for the off-campus student may be up to full tuition and an $800 annual book allowance. This scholarship is renewable up to four consecutive fall/spring semesters. To remain eligible, the student must maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester. The Presidential Scholarship will be applied first, other institutional scholarships, if applicable; will be applied to remaining eligibility. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not used to determine eligibility for this scholarship; however, Presidential scholars may also be eligible for other types of financial aid. In some cases, when combined with other aid (federal and state and other institutional), the actual amount of the Presidential or other scholarship(s) may be reduced. Applicants are encouraged, not required , to apply for federal and state financial aid. Maximum Award - up to the published cost of tuition, room and board. Minimum Award - up to $800.00/year. Maximums and minimums are subject to change based on availability of funds and other financial aid eligibility. Limited funds. Priority deadline - April 1. Applications for the Presidential Scholarship received after April 1 will be considered as funds permit.

DEAN'S SCHOLARSHIP

ACT Score 18 - 24 and a B average on high school transcript (first-time entering freshmen) or a 3.0 on transfer credit (minimum 12 hours of earned college credit) or rank in the upper 20 th percentile (570 or above cumulative average) on the GED. Limited scholarships are available for full-time students who meet these academic requirements, who have not completed the requirements for an associate degree or a bachelor's degree, and are Mississippi residents. This scholarship provides full tuition and is renewable up to four consecutive fall/spring semesters. To remain eligible, the student must maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester. The Dean's Scholarship cannot be combined with any other tuition based institutional scholarship. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not used to determine eligibility for this scholarship; however, Dean's scholars may also be eligible for other types of financial aid. In some cases, when combined with other aid (federal and state and other institutional), the actual amount of the Dean's or other scholarship(s) may be reduced. Applicants are encouraged, not required , to apply for federal and state financial aid. Maximum Award - up to the published cost of tuition. Minimum Award - up to $800.00/year. Maximums and minimums are subject to change based on availability of funds and other financial aid eligibility. Limited funds. Priority deadline - April 1. Applications for the Dean's Scholarship received after April 1 will be considered as funds permit.

ACTIVITY SCHOLARSHIP

Based on talent and need. Scholarship amounts vary depending on the activity. These scholarships are renewable up to four consecutive fall/spring semesters. Unless otherwise stated, the student must maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester to continue receiving an activity scholarship. Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In some cases, when combined with other aid (federal and state and other institutional), the actual amount of the Activity or other scholarship(s) may be reduced. Maximum Award - up to the published cost of tuition, room and board. Minimum Award - up to $800.00/year. Maximums and minimums are subject to change based on availability of funds and other financial aid eligibility. A limited number of Activity Scholarships are available for each sponsored activity (band, dance, Ambassadors, etc.) Deadline - based on tryout date.

Students interested in applying for an Activity Scholarships should contact the sponsor or department for an application. More information about clubs, organizations and activities is available in Section II - Student Life.

ATHLETIC GRANT-IN-AID

Based on ability and need. Athletic grant-in-aid is available for baseball, basketball (men & women), soccer (men & women), football, and women's softball. This grant-in-aid is renewable up to four consecutive fall/spring semesters. To remain eligible, the student must maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester. Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Maximum and minimum awards are subject to guidelines established by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Deadline - based on tryout date. Contact the MDCC Athletic Department for tryout information.

COLLEGE WORK -STUDY

Fully funded by the institution, the college work-study program provides part-time, on-campus employment to eligible students. Eligible students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The SAR from the FAFSA is used by the financial aid administrator to determine eligibility for this institutional work-study program. An eligible student may earn from $750-$1800 per year by working up to ten hours per week on campus. The eligible student should maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester.

FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS

Priority deadline: April 1. Final application deadline: June 1. All applicants for funded scholarship must apply for federal financial aid by completing The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov

CROSSROADS SCHOLARSHIP

ACT Score 18+ and a 3.0 grade point average on college credit Limited scholarships are available for full-time students who meet these academic requirements, who have completed the requirements for an associate degree or a bachelor's degree, and are Mississippi residents. This scholarship provides one-half tuition and is renewable up to four consecutive fall/spring semesters. To remain eligible, the student must maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average and complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester. The Second Chance Scholarship cannot be combined with any other tuition based institutional scholarship. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not used to determine eligibility for this scholarship. In some cases, when combined with other aid (federal and state and other institutional), the actual amount of the Crossroads or other scholarship(s) may be reduced. Applicants are encouraged, not required , to apply for federal and state financial aid. Maximum Award - up to one-half the published cost of tuition. Minimum Award - up to $800.00/year. Maximums and minimums are subject to change based on availability of funds and other financial aid eligibility. Limited funds. Priority deadline - April 1. Applications for the Crossroads Scholarship received after April 1 will be considered as funds permit.

J. S. VANDIVER SCHOLARSHIP

A fund was established in 1960 by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Delta Community College to provide a partial scholarship, in memory and in honor of J. S. Vandiver, a distinguished leader in the field of education in Mississippi for many years and the first president of “Sunflower Junior College.” The criteria for selection of applicants for this scholarship follows:

1. Should be the child or grandchild of an alumnus of Sunflower Agricultural High School, Sunflower Junior College, Mississippi Delta Junior College or Mississippi Delta Community College.

2. Must show a financial need.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

MDCC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

A fund was established in 1994 by the MDCC Alumni Association to provide scholarship assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Should be the child or grandchild of an alumnus of Sunflower Agricultural High School, Sunflower Junior College, Mississippi Delta Junior College or Mississippi Delta Community College.

2. Must show a financial need.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

HERMAN A. THIGPIN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship, established in memory of Herman A. Thigpin, who served as Academic Dean and Biology instructor at MDCC from 1937 until 1993, was established through the efforts of the MDCC Faculty Association. The criteria follow:

1. Must be a second year student majoring in science.

2. Must show financial need.

3. Must demonstrate worthy character.

4. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

JOHNNY RUSSELL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was made possible through the efforts of Johnny Russell, a country music writer and recording artist who was a former resident of Moorhead.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office, no later than June 1.

 

MOORHEAD ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

The Moorhead Rotary Club Scholarship offers scholarship assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Student must demonstrate financial need.

2. Student must demonstrate academic achievement, i.e. ACT score of 18 or better or an equivalent score on a comparable test.

3. Student must be a full-time student.

4. Student must document service activities and/or leadership positions.

5. Student or student's parents must live or be employed in Sunflower County.

a. Preference will be given to applicant who resides or works in Moorhead or whose parents reside or work in Moorhead.

b. Preference will be given to applicant who is the child or grandchild of a Moorhead Rotarian.

6. Recipient must maintain a 2.5 average or better to receive the scholarship the following semester.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

JASON ANDREW WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Jerald L. Williamson of Lake Village, Arkansas, and countless friends in memory of their son, Jason Andrew Williamson. This scholarship provides assistance to a recipient based on the following criteria:

1. Must be an incoming freshman.

2. May be either a resident or nonresident of Mississippi.

3. Must be of outstanding moral character.

4. Must demonstrate financial need.

5. Must be pursuing a baccalaureate degree.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Based upon the academic standing of 2.5 or better, the scholarship may be awarded to the same student his or her sophomore year. Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

JEANINE HOLLOWAY HANSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by George Hansen, husband of the late Jeanine Holloway Hansen, as well as other family members and friends. This scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must show financial need.

2. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

3. Must be pursuing a major in a business related field.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

JIMMY BELLIPANNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Bobby Gibney of Mobile, Alabama, in honor of his former coach, “Coach Jimmy” Bellipanni, who began coaching at MDCC in 1951. Upon his death in 2002, Coach Bellipanni was serving as the College's Athletic Director. Many other former students and friends have contributed to the scholarship over the years. This scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must show financial need.

2. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

3. Must demonstrate worthy character.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

JIM RANDALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by the many friends of Coach Randall in memory of his years as Head Football Coach and Foundation Director (1951-1993) at MDCC . This scholarship provides an assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must show a financial need.

2. Must be of worthy character.

3. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

BILL RICHARDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Reverend and Mrs. Howell Richardson in memory of their son, William Perrin “Bill” Richardson, in 1993. The scholarship provides assistance for a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must show financial need.

2. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

3. Must demonstrate worthy character.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

CHARLES P. FOLEY, JR. SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established upon Dean Foley's retirement by faculty, friends, and former students in honor of Dean Charles P. Foley, Jr. for his forty-two years (1952-1994) of service to Vocational-Technical education at Mississippi Delta Community College. The recipient who best meets the following criteria will receive scholarship assistance.

1. Must be a full-time student enrolled in a program approved through the Office of Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education.

2. Must reside in the MDCC District.

3. Must demonstrate worthy character.

4. Must demonstrate potential success in his/her chosen field.

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

PATRICK SHANE STAUFFER SCHOLARSHIP

The Patrick Shane Stauffer Scholarship was established by family and friends in May 1994 following the death of student Shane Stauffer. Shane, a native of Inverness, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Stauffer. Mr. Stauffer, who served as Executive Assistant to the President at MDCC , followed Shane in death in July 1994. Memorials made in honor of the memories of both Shane and Sherman Stauffer were used to establish this scholarship. The scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a full-time academic student enrolled as a returning sophomore.

2. Must have been active in campus life at MDCC during Freshman year.

3. Must have maintained a 3.5 GPA from his/her Freshman year at MDCC .

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

MELVIN E. THARP SCHOLARSHIP

The Melvin E. Tharp Scholarship was established by former students in October 1994 in memory of their long-time agriculture teacher at Sunflower Junior College, Melvin E. Tharp. The scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a full-time student.

2. Must demonstrate need and merit.

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

SAM & JOAN ELY SCHOLARSHIP

The Sam and Joan Ely Scholarship was established in May 1995 by friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ely in honor of Sam's retirement as Sunflower County Circuit Clerk after 30 years of service. Mr. Ely, an alumnus of Sunflower Junior College, serves on the Mississippi Delta Community College Foundation Board. The scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a full-time student.

2. Must have at least a 2.5 average.

3. Must be a deserving student from Sunflower County.

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

SHANE NARAMORE SCHOLARSHIP

The Shane Naramore Scholarship was established by Micro-Sped, Shane's employer, as well as other friends and family members in November 1995 following the death of former student and Greenwood resident Shane Naramore. Scholarship assistance will be provided to the student who best meets the following criteria:

1. Must have an expressed interest in a career in a computer field.

2. Must have demonstrated an ability and desire to succeed in a computer related field.

3. Must be needful and deserving of the scholarship.

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

THE FEIGLER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

The Feigler Scholarship was originally established by Jack Feigler of Gulfport, Mississippi, and named the Ben Feigler, Sr., Scholarship. The original scholarship was established to honor the memory of Jack Feigler's brother Ben Feigler, Sr., who was a pharmacist in Greenwood, Mississippi. However, following the untimely death of Jack Feigler, the scholarship was renamed by the Feigler family. The scholarship provides tuition assistance to applicants who meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a full time student.

2. Preference given to a student majoring in pre-pharmacy, but majors in other science-related fields also considered.

3. Must demonstrate potential for success in his/her chosen field.

4. Must have an overall 2.5 or better high school average.

5. Must have an ACT composite score of 18 or higher.

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

FRED 'S SECOND OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

Two $1000 per school year ($500 per student per semester) scholarships are available to students who apply.

Selection is based on previous schooling, need, desire, and num ber of dependents. The application must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be 21 years of age

2. Must be able to meet the entrance requirements at MDCC

3. Must be able to begin classes at the regular start of the school term

4. Must be a full time student

5. Must maintain a “C” average in order to qualify for the second semester scholarship

Applications should be picked up at Fred's Dollar Stores. Completed applications should be mailed to the Fred's Second Opportunity Board no later than May 1 to be considered for the fall term. The scholarship is not transferable and has no other cash value.

 

MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF SUPERVISORS SCHOLARSHIP

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors Scholarship provides scholarships to students who reside in one of MDCC 's supporting counties. The following criteria must be met:

1. Must be a freshman (non-renewable after 1 year).

2. Must demonstrate potential success in college.

3. Must demonstrate financial need.

4. Must maintain a “C” average to qualify for second semester.

Recipients will be selected from MDCC 's supporting counties in alphabetical order: Bolivar, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Sharkey, Sunflower, and Washington.

Application should be made to the MDCC Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

KENT “BLADE” PIERCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Kent “Blade” Pierce Scholarship was established in 1996 by the Indianola Kiwanis Club in honor of the memory of their former member and MDCC alumnus Kent “Blade” Pierce. The scholarship provides assistance to an applicant who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a resident of the MDCC District

2. Must be a full time student

3. Must demonstrate need

4. Must demonstrate the potential for success

5. Must maintain a “C” average to qualify for second semester

6. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in Sunflower County

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

CARL & BRENDA GRUBB SCHOLARSHIP

The Carl & Brenda Grubb Scholarship was established in honor of the retired faculty members. The scholarship provides $100 per semester to be used toward school expenses. The recipient must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a sophomore science major

2. Must have a 3.0 average from his/her freshman year at MDCC

3. Must demonstrate financial need and must not be receiving other significant financial assistance

4. Must maintain a 3.0 average to qualify for second semester

Application should be made to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

SIEMENS BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES SCHOLARSHIP

The Landis Branch Network of Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., located in Jackson, MS, was founded in 1891 as the Power's Regulator Company. Today the Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., Landis Branch Network, employs over 5,000 in over 100 locations across North America. The company's mission is to create outstanding customer value by partnering with customers to improve energy efficiency and facility performance by working with customers to help them achieve their business objectives.

This scholarship provides a $250 award (first semester only) to four freshmen who meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a first semester entering freshman.

2. Must be majoring in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration.

3. Must demonstrate the potential for success in the field.

4. Must show a financial need.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

FARMERS GRAIN TERMINAL, INC. SCHOLARSHIP

Farmers Grain Terminal, Inc. is a regional grain marketing company serving producer-owners in the Mississippi Delta, Southeast Arkansas, and Northeast Louisiana. Because Farmers Grain is committed to the Delta and to the Delta's future and believes that the future begins with education, they established a scholarship to be awarded a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be an incoming freshman.

2. Must be a full-time student.

3. Must have a 3.0 GPA from high school.

4. Must reside in one of the following areas:

a. In Mississippi: Bolivar, Washington, Sunflower, Leflore, Humphreys, Holmes, Yazoo, Sharkey or Issaquena

b. In Louisiana: East Carroll, West Carroll, Richland, Madison, Franklin, Tensas, Catahoula, Concordia

c. In Arkansas: Drew, Desha, Ashley, Chicot

The scholarship will be awarded for one year to an incoming freshman. If the recipient maintains a 2.5 average, the student will be awarded second semester. This scholarship is good for only one year.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI INC. EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL STUDENTS

Entergy Mississippi, Inc.'s Excellence in Education Scholarship recognizes the importance of a well-trained work force to the future economic success of Mississippi. Entergy believes that Mississippi's community colleges provide excellent job-training that enable graduates to compete in today's market.

This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis and will cover tuition and required fees up to $1,200. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Be a full-time Mississippi Delta Community College freshman or sophomore student pursuing a vocational or technical field of student.

2. Have a 2.5 or better high school and/or Mississippi Delta Community College grade point average.

3. Be free of any disciplinary problems.

4. Be a legal resident of Mississippi.

5. Have a demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship may not duplicate other scholarships or financial assistance. If for any reason the recipient does not return to MDCC for the Spring Semester or drops below the required GPA, the balance of the scholarship fund shall be awarded in the Spring to an alternate student who meets the above criteria. To be considered for a second year, the recipient must reapply.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

THE JACK E. HARPER JR. SCHOLARSHIP

The Jack E. Harper Jr. Scholarship was established by friends and relatives of Mr. Jack E. Harper Jr. upon his retirement after 44 years of service as Chancery Clerk of Sunflower County. Mr. Harper, a 1939 Sunflower Junior College graduate, served as a member of the MDCC Board of Trustees from 1961 until 2003.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a full-time student

2. Must have no less than a 2.5 average

3. Must be a deserving student from Sunflower County

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

ROBERT G. BARNETT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Robert G. Barnett Foundation Scholarship was established by the Trustees of the Robert G. Barnett Foundation following the death of Indianolan Robert Barnett.

Preference will be given to students who reside in South Sunflower County who meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a graduate or former student of Gentry High School or Indianola Academy.

2. Must have a 2.35 cumulative GPA (high school GPA is used if student has never attended college)

3. Must be a full-time student

4. Must not be receiving in excess of $800 a year in additional grants or scholarships

5. Must not be in default of a federal student loan

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

MARGARET JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and colleagues of Miss Margaret Jackson in honor of her contribution to the Medical Laboratory Program of Mississippi Delta Community College. Ms. Jackson, a graduate of the University of Mississippi, was reared in Moorhead but moved to Greenwood as a young adult. There she worked for Dr. John F. Lucas, Sr., then as a Medical Technologist at Greenwood Leflore Hospital from 1953 until 1985. She was Supervisor of the Microbiology Laboratory and also served as a clinical instructor of Microbiology in affiliation with MDCC 's Medical Laboratory Technology Program. Beloved and admired by her colleagues and students, she was described as having a bright and inquiring mind and as being an excellent teacher and a good example to her students.

The Margaret Jackson Scholarship provides assistance to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a second year Medical Laboratory Technology student.

2. Must demonstrate the potential for success in the MLT pro gram.

3. Must be a full-time student.

4. Must demonstrate financial need and must not be receiving other significant financial assistance.

5. Must be recommended by MDCC 's MLT faculty

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office, but MLT students should contact the MLT instructors at MDCC for a letter of reference to be submitted by the student with the completed application.

 

BILLY PICKETT SCHOLARSHIP

W.A. (Billy) Pickett Scholarship was established by alumni and friends in honor of the memory of Mr. Billy Pickett of Greenwood, MS upon his death in 2001. Mr. Pickett, a student in 1948, was a long-time supporter of the college and a strong supporter of the athletic program. He was a charter member of the MDCC Development Foundation and a charter member of the Leflore-Carroll-Grenada-Montgomery-Holmes Alumni Chapter.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a full-time student.

2. Must have no less than a 2.5 GPA.

3. Must be a deserving student from one of the following coun ties: Leflore, Carroll, Grenada, Montgomery, and Holmes.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office. The student's completed MDCC Foundation Scholarship application, 3 letters of recommendation with at least 1 letter from the Leflore-Carroll-Grenada-Montgomery-Holmes Alumni Chapter Executive Committee, and completed Federal Student Aid application must be on file in the Financial Aid Office no later than July 1. Recipients must reapply in order to be reconsidered his/her second year.

 

GEORGE ( BUD ) DOWELL SCHOLARSHIP

The George (Bud) Dowell Scholarship was established by friends, family, and college faculty members in honor of the memory of long-time Farm Management Technology instructor, Bud Dowell.

The recipient must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a sophomore majoring in Farm Management Technology.

2. Must demonstrate financial need and must not be receiving other significant financial assistance.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office.

TYSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Tyson Foundation Scholarship is designed for students majoring in one of the following technical or vocational programs: agricultural mechanics, business & office technology, computer network technology, electronics technology, industrial electricity, heating and air-conditioning, machine tool operation, or practical nursing.

An award of up to $1,250 will be made to a student to be used for tuition, fees and/or book costs who meets the following criteria:

1. Must demonstrate need.

2. Must be majoring in one of the vocational or technical programs listed above.

Preference will be given to a student who is associated with Tyson as an employee, grower, or dependent.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress. Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office. Recipients must reapply in order to be reconsidered his/her second year.

 

BELLSOUTH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

This scholarship was established by BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc. in 2002 for the benefit of students pursuing degrees in education or business at Mississippi Delta Community College. Three students will be selected to receive annual scholarships of $500 each based on the following criteria:

1. Must be pursuing a degree in education or business

2. Must be a full-time student

3. Must demonstrate need

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than July 1. Recipients must reapply in order to be reconsidered for his/her second year.

 

THE MCCUAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

This scholarship was established by Robert E. and Mary Ann Bryan of Greenwood, MS, in 2003, to provide a perpetual memorial for Noble McKeel McCuan, Sr., Hattie Johnson McCuan, and Morris Kenneth McCuan, Sr. It provides scholarship assistance to a rising sophomore.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress.

Application should be made in the Financial Aid Office no later than July 1.

 

CATHERINE & ALLEN SNOWDEN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in 2002-03 upon the retirement of long-time math instructors, Catherine & Allen Snowden. The scholarship was established by their colleagues in honor of their 29 years of dedicated service to both the college and the MDCC Math Department. The scholarship provides assistance to a sophomore mathematics major that shows promise in the field of mathematics.

ANNE DUNN NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends of former long-time nursing instructor, Anne Dunn, following her death in October 2003. The scholarship provides assistance to a nursing student who shows promise in the field of Associate Degree Nursing.

Interested students should contact the Chair of the MDCC Associated Degree Nursing Program for further information.

 

BONNELL AMERICAN HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP

- The Bonnell American History Scholarship was established in 2003 by Kenneth Myron Bonnell of Greenville. This scholarship provides $250 per semester to the student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must have successfully completed MDCC 's American History course

2. Must be enrolled as a sophomore

3. Must plan to pursue a four year degree in the field of history

4. Must be recommended by students MDCC 's American History teacher

COX COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIOP

- This scholarship, established by Cox Communications in 2004, is a full-tuition scholarship designed for a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be a Freshman.

2. Must be a recent graduate of one of these Greenville High Schools: Greenville High School, Greenville Christian School, Greenville-Weston School, St. Joseph School, Riverside School, O'Bannon School, or Washington School.

3. Must have a high school graduation GPA of 2.5.

4. Must prove a need for financial assistance.

5. Must study in the field of communications, which includes electronic/computer technology, journalism, broadcasting, newspaper, magazine, radio, advertising, public relations, and production in video, film or photography.

6. Recipient must maintain 15 course hours each semester, pass each individual course with a GPA of 2.0, and continue study in the same communications field through second semester.

7. The scholarship is non-renewal after the student's freshman year.

POWELL E. POE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in 2004 by Mrs. Powell E. Poe of Indianola, Mississippi, in memory of her late husband Powell E. Poe. Mr. Poe graduated from Sunflower Agricultural High School in 1931. Qualifying students must meet these requirements:

1. Must be a Sunflower County resident.

2. Must be a graduate of Indianola Academy.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

FRANCES YOUNG STA-HOME HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Sta-Home Health in memory of former employee and MDCC LPN graduate, Frances Young. Students meeting the following criteria should contact the MDCC Nursing Department for an application:

1. Must be an LPN with no less than one year of practical nursing experience who has been accepted in the A D N Fast Track program.

2. Must reside in one of MDCC 's 7 supporting counties.

3. Preference will be given to Sta-Home employees; however, the award will be based on merit and need.

4. Recipient must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to continue receiving the scholarship for the second and third terms.

The scholarship award may be used to pay tuition costs and /or book and supply purchases in the MDCC Bookstore. The recipient will not be entitled to a cash refund of any unused portion of the scholarship award.

 

GREENWOOD-LEFLORE-CARROLL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established for students who meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a resident of Leflore or Carroll County.

2. Must demonstrate merit and need.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress.

Applications should be sent to the Financial Aid Office no later than June 1.

 

JOHN HOUGH-INDIANOLA ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established through a bequeath of former Indianola businessman and philanthropist, John Hough. The scholarship is administered by the Indianola Rotary Club. Qualifying students should meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a Sunflower County resident.

2. Must be an Indianola Academy graduate.

3. Must demonstrate merit and need.

The scholarship will be awarded both semesters provided the student shows satisfactory progress.
