Eldon McPhearson

During his four years at Sunflower Junior College McPhearson’s boys’ basketball teams finished in the top three every year and one year made it all the way to the state finals before being defeated. He also coached football while at SJC.

Coach McPhearson began his coaching career at Florence High School where he coached one year before joining the Mississippi State Board of Health. From there he joined the Navy during World War II where he served as an LST skipper in the Pacific. After his discharge he came to SJC as a basketball coach, assistant football coach, and baseball coach.

His career at SJC, where he was also Athletic Director, was cut short due to physical ailments. After leaving coaching, McPhearson began a career selling athletic equipment, eventually owning his own business.

The former Trojans coach began his basketball career as a player at Mississippi College. He lettered in four sports at MC and is now a member of the MC Sports Hall of Fame.
