|Jessie Murphree, Class of 1970

Murphree played halfback and defensive back for the 1968 Trojans and was the team’s interception leader. He earned All-State honors as a sophomore. Jessie was also a member of the Trojans’ track team in 1969 where he finished fourth in the 220 dash and fifth in the shot put at the state track meet.
Jessie Murphree went on to letter for two years at Delta State College and earned his degree in 1972.
After college Murphree started his coaching career. He started in Tunica Junior High School where he had seven winning seasons in seven years. Over the next seven years he coached at many schools in the Delta and played in four bowl games while wining three. In 1987 he returned to Clarksdale High as an Assistant Football coach and as Head Track coach. In 1993 Murphree was named Head Football Coach at Clarksdale High and during the following eight seasons he won six District Championships, five North Mississippi Championships, and three 4-A State Titles.
In 2001 he left coaching and has been in Student Supervision at Clarksdale High.
