Noel Brock, Class of 1933

Induction Class of 2004
Football, Baseball, & Track

Sports records for Noel Brock’s years at SJC are scarce, but it is known that he set the state records in the broad jump, the 100 yard dash, and 220 yard dash his last year at SJC. An article in an April 1933 SJC student newspaper about the state track meet said, “The Sunflower Junior College track team, led by the brilliant performance of Noel Brock, scored four first places, one tie for first, three second places, and four third places to capture third place in the meet.” Brock won individual honors by winning the broad jump, the century, and the 220yard dash. One of Brock’s nicknames at SJC was “Tuff-Hawk the speed demon.”

Noel Brock went on to play football at Mississippi State University during the 1933 season, but his athletic career was sidelined by a knee injury, and he quit school to join the Army.

After returning from military service Brock worked for a while in Drew before a long career at Baxter Labs in Cleveland, MS.
