REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

COMPLIANCE STATEMENT:

Legal Limitations for Employment as a Healthcare Provider: according to Mississippi State Law, an individual may not be eligible for employment in a health care agency if the person has ever been convicted of a felony , or plead guilty to, or plead nolo contendere to a felony of possession or sale of drugs, murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, rape, sexual battery, sex offense listed in Section 45-33A-23 (f), child abuse, arson, grand larceny, burglary, gratification of lust or aggravated assault, of felonious abuse and/or battery of a vulnerable adult.

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    1.      Meet general admission requirements.

    2.      Be a high school graduate or have a satisfactory GED score.

    3.      All applicants must have completed an accredited program in Radiologic Technology

    4.      All applicants must submit an 18 or better on the ACT or have a GPA of at least 2.5.

    5.      All applicants must take an entrance test at their own expense. Applicants may take the exam once a year only.      

    6.      If the HOBET (or a comparable allied health entrance exam) has been taken within the previous 3 years applicants may submit a copy of these scores.

    7.      All applicants are considered on a competitive basis. Meeting the above minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. Acceptance will be based upon the student’s academic ability. Students will be contacted to schedule an orientation session with the Program Director.

    8.      Those applicants accepted under items 1-4 above are admitted tentatively pending: (a) completion of  General Chemistry I OR Principles of Chemistry, and Introduction to Nuclear Medicine Technology with a grade of “C” or better during the fall semester prior to the program’s start in January.

    9.      (b) acceptable pre-admission drug screen, (c) evidence of having begun Hepatitis B vaccination series (d) successful completion of background check, (e) completed physical examination form signed by a physician, (f) documentation of current CPR certification.

    10. Students seeking readmission to the program or transfer credit from another Nuclear Medicine program are considered on an individual basis according to the Health Science readmission and transfer policies.

    11. Meet essential performance/health requirements necessary to function as a nuclear medicine technologist: visual acuity with corrective lenses; hearing ability with auditory aids; tactile ability; motor/physical ability; the ability to communicate effectively; and the emotional stability required to function under stress created by patient situations and the changing clinical environment.

    12. Submit a signed, notarized Healthcare Criminal History Background Affidavit.

    13. Take a computerized HOBET entrance test at the applicant's own expense.  The exam may be taken once a year. The HOBET Study Guide may be purchased from the MDCC bookstore for use in preparing for the test.
