Football

Short was a defensive captain for the Trojan’s football team. He went on to play for a state championship in Biloxi. Short was named to both the All-State and North All-Star Team and played in the All-Star football game. He was a recipient of the J.D. Stonestreet Award for the most outstanding male athlete.

From 1973 to 2001 Short farmed several hundred acres of cotton near Choctaw and was co-owner of the Choctaw Gin & Elevator. In 1987 he invented a deep placement applicator that solved the problem of low potassium levels at subsoil depths.
