Colotta lettered in both Football and Basketball for the Trojans
I.J. went to Tulane for his junior year and then went onto Delta State Teacher’s College for his senior year where he played Basketball and Football. At Delta State he won recognition for his passing ability in Football.
Colotta served four years in the Marine Corps from 1935 to 1939. At the age of 29 he entered the US Army Air Corps and graduated in August of 1944 fro the Army Air Forces Advanced Glider School.
I.J. Colotta served as both a pilot and glider in the 435th Troop Carrier Group that spearheaded every glider assault in WWII following D-Day. Colotta received the Bronze Star for his meritorious achievement.
Colotta returned to the Delta following WWII and in 1950 married the former Milder Ellis and together they raised eight children.
