During Dykes’ High School years she was named All-State for two years. During her senior year she was chosen as one of the 12 best Girl’s Basketball players in the Delta Valley Conference.
Following High School Nora was offered a spot playing for the famous All American Red Heads, a traveling Women’s Basketball team that played on Men’s teams and by Men’s rules. She received All-State honors as a forward for the Trojanettes her freshman year. During Nora’s sophomore year she was married to William “Pete” Martin.
Nora Dykes Martin worked as a school bus driver for a few years and in the Ely & Walker Factory for 12 years while raising her family.
