Bobby Etheridge, Class of 1961

Bobby only played baseball one year, but that was 1962 and the Trojans captured the State Baseball Championship. Etheridge singed with Mississippi State out of high school but returned to the Delta for his sophomore year batting .333.

After college Etheridge signed a professional contract by the San Francisco Giants. He played 2 ½ months for the Class A Lexington, NC Giants and led the league with 26 doubles and was named MVP. Bobby then moved to Fresno in the California League where he was third in batting with a .329 average and first in RBI’s with 107. He was moved to the AA Waterberry, CT ball club where he collected 59 RBI’s in half of a season before moving up to the AAA team in Phoenix, AZ. In 1967 Etheridge was called up the Majors and finished his career back with the Giants in San Francisco in 1960 where he hit .260.

Following his big league career, Etheridge returned to the Greenville area where he remained active in baseball umpiring games, conducting clinics, and directing the Ward Recreation Center.
