Billy Honeycutt, Class of 1955

Billy Honeycutt lettered both years at SJC in football, baseball, tennis, and track. During his sophomore year the football team went 7-3. He also earned Second Team All-State honors and was a member of the ā€œSā€ Club as a freshman and sophomore. Honeycutt was also elected a Outstanding Back and played in the Lions Bowl.

Honeycutt went on to play football at Southeastern Louisiana University where he helped the Lions win the Gulf Sates Conference Championship in 1956. That year Billy started left halfback and led the team in punt returns and was second in rushing, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. He was also third in pass receptions.

Billy Honeycutt earned his B.S. from SLU and a Masters from Louisiana State University. He served as a teacher, assistant coach, Head Basketball Coach, Head Football Coach, Athletic Directory, guidance counselor, and Assistant Principal during 24 years at Zachary High School. Honeycutt went on to serve as the principal of Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge from 1972-1989.

From 1989-1997 Billy Honeycutt served as the Director of the Central Office of the East Baton Rouge Parish.

Honeycutt retired in 1997 after 40 years in education.
