Bariola made Honorable Mention as an All-State freshman. Johnny also played baseball for two years while at SJC and was a member of the “MD” Club for both years.
Bariola went on to play two years of football for Western Kentucky University at Bowling Green, K.Y., where he was linebacker for the Hilltoppers. He earned Ohio Valley Conference Second Team honors both his junior and senior years. Bariola was also voted Best Linebacker in the Ohio Valley Green Conference his senior year.
Johnny Bariola earned both his B.S. Degree and his Masters degree from Western Kentucky.
Bariola returned to the Delta in 1967 and began farming cotton and soybeans near Itta Bena. He was the area representative for the Farm Service Agency for Leflore County for 10 years and served as Chairman for five. Johnny Bariola was the second alternate for selection as Outstanding Farmer of the Year. He has served three terms as a member of the Itta Bena Board of Aldermen and as President of the Itta Bena Cemetery Association.
