Phil Greco was a standout receive and defensive back. He was a two year starter at end and as a defensive back and was the team leader in receptions and interceptions his sophomore year. As a result, he received All-State honors and was named to the All-Star team. Greco also rant track where he anchored the mile relay team that won the State Track Meet his sophomore year. Phil was honored for being named the first recipient of the J.D. Stonestreet Award during his sophomore year. He was also a member of the “M” Club.
Phil Greco received a football scholarship to Tulane University and went on to letter two years as a defensive back for the Green Wave. He earned his B.A. in 1970 and his Masters of Art Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1975.
Greco was an assistant football and track coach in the New Orleans area high schools from 1970 to 1978 when he was named Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at West St. John High School in Reserve, LA. In 1981 he took an assistant football coaching position at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, and in 1984 was named assistant football coach at Southern Mississippi.
In 1987 Greco was named Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Nicholls State University, which he held until 1993.
