Trojans Sweep Coahoma CC

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans swept the Coahoma Community College Tigers Saturday taking the first game 13-0 and the second game 9-0.

Game one was a scheduled nine inning affair that only went eight innings due to the eight run rule. The game was close through the first seven innings with the Trojans getting one run in the first inning, two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning.

Then, the Trojans blew the game wide open with a nine run eighth inning with four hits and four walks and two runs scored on passed balls. Sophomore lefthander had a sterling outing on the mound for Delta going the distance while giving up no runs and just three hits will striking out 10 batters and walking just two.

Carson Crites had three hits (including two doubles) and two RBI’s while Jacob Shempert drove in four runs on two hits. Conner Osborne had two doubles and two RBI’s while Tyler Mize and Peyton Callahan hit into two doubles each. Colby Manor had two hits (one double) and Jason Berry had one hit and one RBI.

Game two was a seven inning affair that saw the Trojans score one run in the second inning, three in the third, two in the fifth and three in the top of the seventh. The game was scheduled to be played at Coahoma but was moved to Moorhead due to rain but Coahoma retained the home field batting order.

Lance Williams went six complete innings and came close to pitching a no-hitter giving up just one hit while striking out six and walking just one batter. Jason Berry led the Trojans at the plate with three hits one double) and two RBI’s and was followed by Danny Springer with two hits (one double) and two RBI’s. Jacob Shempert had one hit and two RBI’s, while Peyton Callahan and Chase Palasini added a hit and an RBI each. Matt Ray, Tyler Mize and Demarcus Mahone also had hits.

The win improves the Trojans overall record to 20-11 and moves their North Division mark to 10-4. Their next game will be Wednesday at East Mississippi CC in Scooba. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
