Lady Trojan Named All-Star MVP

Mississippi Delta Community College sophomore forward Ashanti Spencer of Bentonia was named MVP of the women’s MACJC All-Star basketball game held last Friday at East Central Community College in Decatur.

Spencer poured in a game-high 13 points to lead the North All-Star team to an 81-69 victory over the South All-Stars. Mississippi Delta sophomore guard Krystal Nailer of Shaw was the North’s second high scorer with 11 points.

On the men’s side, MDCC sophomore guard Johnny Rucker of Yazoo City was the second highest scorer for the North team which lost 121-117 in a shootout to the South. Trojan sophomore guard Marquarius Boddie of Memphis scored three points for the North.

Four MDCC Basketball Players Receive Honors

Four Mississippi Delta Community College basketball players have received honors following the 2013-2014 basketball season.

Ashanti Spencer of Bentonia has been named to the 2014 MACJC All-State Basketball First Team. The sophomore forward averaged 12.5 points per game for the Lady Trojans this season. She will also be playing in the MACJC All-Star Basketball Game which will be held April 11 at East Central Community College’s Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building in Fulton. The game begins at 5 p.m. with the men playing at 7 p.m.

MDCC Trojans’ James Evans of Starkville was named to the MACJC All-State Basketball Second Team. The 6’7” sophomore center averaged 15.2 points per game this season.

Two other Mississippi Delta players, Krystal Nailer and Johnny Rucker, will also be playing in this year’s All-Star Game at East Central Community College. Nailer, a sophomore guard from Shaw, averaged 13.3 points per game this season and Rucker, a sophomore guard from Yazoo City, averaged 12.3 points per game.
