Trojans Drop Two To Jones County

The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team dropped to games to the Jones County Junior College Bobcats Saturday at Moorhead losing game one 4-2 and game two 3-0.

The Bobcats opened game one with two runs off two hits in the first inning and scored their final two runs in the third inning off two hits. The Trojans scored one run in the second inning off a walk and added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Colby Manor. Delta got the tying run on base in the sixth but failed to score.

Jones scored four runs off six hits with two errors and left four runners stranded on base while the Trojans scored two runs on seven hits with one error and left eight runners on the base paths. Right-handed sophomore Lane Williams went four innings and took the loss on the mound for Delta.

Tre Hobbs led MDCC with two hits while Tyler Mize, Carson Crites, Colby Manor, Michael Beloso, and Jason Berry had a hit apiece.

In game two Jones scored three runs on three RBI’s in the top of the second inning to record the only runs in the game. Freshman right-hander Hunter Vanderburg pitched seven complete for the Trojans allowing three runs on three hits while striking out seven hitters with no walks.

Mississippi Delta loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with no outs but were unable to plate a run. They had three hits in the game courtesy of Demarcus Mahone, Jacob Shempert, and Colby Manor.

The losses drop the Trojans’ overall record to 4-6. They will be on the road Sunday at West Monroe High School to take on Bossier Parish Community College at 1 and 4 p.m. and will be at home again Wednesday to host East Central Community College. First pitch is 1 p.m.
