Trojans Split At Home

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans split a double-header with Hinds Community College Saturday in Moorhead winning the first game 4-1 before losing game two 7-1.

The Trojans scored two runs in the first and two in the fourth inning before the Eagles finally got on the board with a single run in the fifth. Brandon Cummins got the action started in the first with a double. This was followed with an RBI double by Danny Springer and an RBI single by Carson Crites.

A Single in the fourth by Michael Beloso scored Colby Manor and Peyton Calahan for Mississippi Delta’s other two runs. Sophomore lefty Devonte Wilson took the win going five complete innings. He struck out four while giving up seven hits and one run.

Peyton Calahan got two hits in the game while Danny Springer had an RBI double and Tyler Mize and Brandon Cummins added doubles. Carson Crites had an RBI single and Michael Beloso added a single.

The Trojans got five hits in game two but just couldn’t score as Eagles pitcher Casey Sutton went the distance giving up just one run while striking out four batters.

Meanwhile the Trojans went through seven pitchers but couldn’t stop the Eagles from racking 10 hits and seven runs in game two. Hinds scored three runs in the second, one in the fifth, and three more in the sixth inning. The Trojans finally got on the board in the sixth on an RBI single by Jacob Shempert.

Colby Manor had the best day at the plate for Mississippi Delta going three for three. Jacob Shempert and Peyton Calahan also got hits for Delta.

The split moves the Trojans to 7-5 for the season. Their next scheduled contest is set for Thursday, March 6th, when they will host Kellog Community College from Battle Creek, MI. The Bruins have played just one game thus far this year, a 10-0 loss Friday to LSU Eunice. The have also gone to the Division II World Series four times since 2002 finishing as runners-up in 2007.
