Trojans Split Division Games With East Mississippi

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans took on the sixth-ranked team in the nation Friday and split a pair of North Division baseball games with East Mississippi Community College at Moorhead losing game one 4-2 and winning game two 5-4.

Mississippi Delta opened game one with a run in the first inning and then held the Lions scoreless until the fourth when EMCC plated two runs on a double. The Trojans came back to tie the game in the bottom of the frame when Colby Manor reached on an error.

The Lions scored a run in the sixth on an error and a run in the seventh when they stole home. The Trojans put a runner on in the sixth but were unable to score. Devontae Wilson took the loss for the Trojans going five complete and giving up two earned runs on five hits.

The Lions scored four runs on seven hits with four errors and left six runners stranded on base. The Trojans scored two runs on four hits with four errors and left four men on base. Brandon Cummins led Delta with two hits. While Michael Beloso and Danny Springer had one hit each.

The Trojans came out swinging in the first inning of game two and scored three runs on three hits to take a 3-0 lead through three innings. Two runs came on RBI singles by Carson Crites and Danny Springer. The third run came on a sacrifice fly by Colby Manor.

The Lions answered with a two run homer by Trent Waddell to make it a one run game but Delta’s Carson Crites hit his second RBI single of the game in the fifth to give the Trojans a 4-2 lead.

The Lions tied the game in the sixth inning with two runs, the second another homerun by Trent Waddell. Mississippi Delta won the game in the bottom of the frame when Peyton Callahan singled and then scored on a Lions passed ball error.

The Trojans scored five runs on six hits with one error and left six runners stranded on base. The Lions scored four runs on seven hits with two errors and left four runners stranded. Matt Ray took the win for Delta going one-and-a-third and giving up one hit. Carson Crites had two hits and two RBI’s while Danny Spring had an RBI single. Brandon Cummins, Michael Beloso and Peyton Callahan also had hits.

The win gives the Trojans a 3-1 North Division record and leaves them at 12-8 overall. The next scheduled game is Tuesday at home against division foe Northwest Community College. The Rangers are ranked 13th in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association in Division II. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
