Trojans Welcome Tigers for Homecoming

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans will host the Coahoma Community College Tigers for Homecoming Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jim Randall Stadium in Moorhead.

Both teams are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in North Division play. The difference is that the Tigers are coming off a stunning 47-41 double overtime upset of then 13th-ranked Itawamba Community College while the Trojans are trying to rebound from a 36-31 last minute loss to East Central Community College last Saturday.

The Tigers opened their season with six losses including Gulf Coast 63-14, Hinds 55-20, Northwest 38-23, Pearl River 21-7, East Mississippi 90-7, and Northeast 27-17. Against common opponents The Trojans lost to Hinds 49-7, Pearl River 30-14, East Mississippi 70-0, and Itawamba 23-13. Delta defeated Northwest 34-27.

Offensively the Tigers are averaging a competitive 306 yards per game and are splitting those numbers right down the middle  153 passing and 153 rushing. Defensively they are giving up 515 yards per game. The Trojans are averaging 237 yards per game on offense and giving up 445 yards per game.

Coahoma's signal caller is quarterback Quaintavous Peterson (6-1, 200 from Shelby). He is averaging 90 yards a game passing and is the team’s second leading rusher with 46 yards a game. The Tigers’ leading rusher is Christian Williams 5-9, 210 from Gulfport) with 49 yards a game. These two are followed closely by Tiberas Lampkin 5-8, 205 from Yazoo County) with 45 yards a game.
