The Vandiver Student Union, named in honor of Joseph S. Vandiver, the first president of Sunflower Junior College, was built in 1968. The Student Union houses the Campus Bookstore, a student grill, a game and locker room and a spacious lounge area. The student publications offices, student government office, conference rooms and guest suites open onto the mezzanine overlooking the first floor lounge area. The offices of the Vice-President of Students Services, Campus Police, Distance Learning, and the Career Center are located in the Student Union. The Chief William P. Lacy Campus Police Office is named for the first chief of campus police, William P. Lacy.
