A Message from

the President
Dr. Larry Bailey

Dear MDCC Family,

I have the distinct pleasure of serving as the seventh President of Mississippi Delta Community College.  The quality and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff, as well as the support and energy of alumni and friends continues to amaze me.  It is rewarding to see many students on campus each year full of confidence and enjoying a wonderful collegiate experience much the same as that enjoyed by the first freshmen that enrolled in 1926 at Sunflower Junior College.

During the 2006-2007 school year, MDCC celebrated 80 years of service to the Mississippi Delta.  In 1926, Sunflower Junior College opened and enrolled the first college class on the Moorhead campus and began its rich history, tradition, and commitment to the development of our home region - the Mississippi Delta.  From its beginning, preparing students for the future is something that MDCC has always done well.  The mission of the school is uniquely oriented to offering outstanding programs, both curricular and extracurricular, at five locations to the citizens of the seven county service district and to meeting the challenges and opportunities presented in the region.  Classes at MDCC are still small by standards today in higher education, which allows students to study in an environment where they are known by name instead of a number and where teachers offer individualized attention.

The statement, "A vision built on tradition.  It's no secret, MDCC makes a difference," appears on recruiting materials and publications.  This statement tells the story of the role of this institution in the lives of thousands of individuals that have entrusted the College to continue their education.  The College has continued to build on the foundation of academic excellence that the institution has maintained for over 80 years.

MDCC continues to celebrate the great traditions established throughout the years, as well as, the promising opportunities that the College has to offer in the future.  Thanks to each of you for being a part of this wonderful celebration.

May God bless each of you,

Larry G. Bailey, Ph.D.
President
