Stimulus Funding - American Recovery &
Reinvestment Act
Mississippi Delta Community College was awarded $1,226,509 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. ARRA funds are part of the economic stimulus package enacted by Congress to help stabilize state budgets and create jobs. Governor Haley Barbour provided funds to Mississippi’s community and junior colleges from discretionary funds included under the State Fiscal Stabilization Act (SFSF). The awarding of these funds helped to offset the need to raise tuition and fees at MDCC for the 2009-2010 school year. These funds are being utilized to cover salaries and fringes of five employees and to assist in meeting the cost of utility expenses.
In addition to SFSF funds, MDCC received ARRA funding through the Federal Work-Study program in the amount of $26,700.
Two additional gr ants were awarded to MDCC through the Workforce Investment Act under the direction of MDES - Mississippi Department of Employment Security. These were the Teen Prep Program for $99,560 and the Allied Health Pharmacy Technology Program in the amount of $450,000. Both of these grants represent enhancements to the exists MACC instructional curriculum.
