Policies
MDCC INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
Institutional and Foundation scholarships are all subject to minimum and maximum yearly amounts. The amounts vary and are clearly stated in each scholarship description. Under no circumstances would a combination of all scholarships awarded (from all sources, excluding Pell) exceed thestudent's calculated financial aid unmet need.
Standard Institutional Guidelines and Criteria
- All available federal funds will be applied first, afterwards the institutional awarded funds will then be applied. Likewise, MDCC reserves the right to limit institutional scholarship awards to a floor of $ 200 per award based upon FAFSA determined need. (Note: all institutional awards are to be deemed non-refundable by their nature.)
- This award is subject to department criteria evaluation at the end of each semester (term) for which it has been awarded. (Note: Eligibility will be determined at the end of each semester.)

Subject to Department guidelines, the recipient is eligible to re-apply for the next academic year. However, the maximum length of any scholarship is four (4) consecutive semesters beginning with the recipient’s initial acceptance of that award.
- Awarded Institutional scholarships can not be applied toward summer school tuition, fees, or textbooks.
Specific Criteria for Various Institutional Scholarships
Presidential Scholarship
These scholarship funds can be applied to not only tuition, MDCC fees, or textbook costs but also toward campus room and meal costs. Criteria for being awarded specific to this award are
Dean Scholarship
These scholarship funds can be applied to tuition, MDCC fees, or textbook costs. Criteria for being awarded specific to this award are

Composite ACT score of 18-24

Overall B grade point average (3.0 or > on transcript) for high school students or 3.0 overall grade point average on a minimum of 12 transferable hours for students transferring in from other post-secondary institutions

Legal resident of the state of Mississippi

Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for each semester awarded

Can be awarded for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters
Activity Scholarship
This scholarship includes but is not limited to: Ambassadors, Band, Cheerleaders, Delta Connection, Delta Dancers) – these scholarship funds are made available based upon talent and need. Each department will assess the talent of each applicant at a designated tryout. Available scholarship amounts vary based upon the activity and the funds allocation to that activity- not to exceed the MDCC cost of tuition, room and meals.
Note: this scholarship policy does not apply to athletic scholarships as all athletes must comply with the academic and enrollment requirements established by the MACJC and NJCAA.
Criteria for being awarded specific to this award are:
- Based on exhibited talent as determined by each department, all determinations made by the department head are final.
- Failure of the applicant to attend a designated tryout is sufficient grounds for the applicant not to be awarded. Likewise, knowledge of when these tryouts are being held is the responsibility of applicant.
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for each semester awarded and pass a minimum of 12 hours each semester.
- Can be awarded for a maximum of four (4) consecutive semesters.
