Trojans Defend No.2 Division Rank Against Northwest Rangers

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans will be looking to hold onto the number two spot in the North Division Thursday when they travel to Senatobia for a 6:30 p.m. game with the Northwest Community College Rangers.

The Rangers enter the game with a 2-1 North Division mark but are 2-4 overall. The Trojans are also 2-1 in division but are 3-2 overall. Northwest has lost games to Jones JC 28-20, Gulf Coast CC 63-7, Hinds CC 31-17

and Northeast CC 25-19, and has wins over Itawamba CC 45-31 and Holmes CC 28-14. In games in common, the Trojans defeated Northeast CC 14-7 and lost to Holmes CC 27-8.

The Rangers’ offense is averaging 339 yards per game and is fairly balanced between passing, 177 yards per game, and rushing, 156 yards per game. MDCC is averaging 253 yards per game with 123 passing and 130 yards rushing.

Northwest is led by sophomore quarterback Karsten Miller (6-3, 225) of Lexington, SC. He is hitting 64% of his passes for 197 yards per game with six touchdowns and five interceptions. His three favorite receivers are Jamarius Mabry (6-4, 185) sophomore from Jackson who is averaging 45 yards a game, Galen Gaston (6-1, 205) sophomore from Saltillo who is averaging 42 yards and Kentrell Spencer (5-9, 160) from Starkville who is averaging 38 yards.

When the Rangers run the ball they rely almost exclusively on freshman running back Justin Crawford (6-0, 195) of Columbus, GA., who is averaging a whopping 140 yards per game and 6.2 yards per carry and has six touchdowns.

Thus far this season, Mississippi Delta quarterback Devin Adams is hitting 49% of his passes and averaging 101 yards per game. Leading receivers are Derrick Jenkins with 36 yards per game and Kameron Carter with 33 yards per game. Leading rushers are Roshard Burney with 52 yards per game (5.3 per carry) and six TD’s and Quadre Butler with 44 yards per game (6.1 per carry) and two TD’s.
