Trojans Blanked By East Mississippi Lions

The East Mississippi Community College Lions demonstrated why they are the No.1 team in the nation Thursday night in Scooba as they found five different ways to score 11 times on the way to a 65-0 defeat on the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans.

The Lions scored five touchdowns through the air on passes of 32, 12, 8, 6 and 7 yards while connecting on 29 of 41 passes for 336 yards. They also rushed for three more touchdowns on runs of 5, 3 and 1 yards. For the night they rushed 33 times for 192 yards for 528 yards of total offense.

East Mississippi also connected on a 37 yards field goal and caught MDCC quarterback Devin Adams in his own end zone for a safety. The fifth way the Lions scored was a 15 yard fumble return for their ninth touchdown of the night. The Lions scored on drives of 73 yards, 60, 60, 69, 82, 67, 5, 74, and 59 yards.

Mississippi Delta was unable to get anything going on offense against the Lions’ swarming defense. For the night, the Trojans rushed just 24 times for 49 yards and connected on three of 12 passes for 17 yards for 66 yards of total offense. The Trojans recorded just three first downs on the night while the Lions racked up 26.

The Trojans ended the 2014 season with a 3-5 overall record and a 2-4 North Division mark. The Lions end the regular season with a 9-0 record and a 6-0 North Division slate and will go on to host the No.2 team from the South Division in the first round of the State playoffs.
