MDCC to hold second football tryout

Mississippi Delta will hold its second football tryout March 29 on its Moorhead campus. Registration is from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. in J.T. Hall Coliseum.
Testing will occur both indoors and outdoors with weather permitting. Participants should bring both cleats and tennis shoes. Testing may include but is not limited to height and weight measurements, pro agility (20-yard shuttle), 40-yard dash, standing broad jump, bench press and positional drills.

MDCC announces 2016 football schedule

MOORHEAD – Head Coach Jeff Tatum and the Mississippi Delta Community College football program will begin its 2016 nine-game regular season schedule with a road trip to Wesson as the Trojans battle the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.

Mississippi Delta will play host to Jones County Junior College on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. for the home opener.

The next three weeks of play for MDCC will alternate between away and home match ups starting with a road trip to Goodman (Holmes CC) on Sept. 15 then hosting Northwest CC on Sept. 22 and traveling to Scooba (East Mississippi CC) for the week five opponent.

Weeks six and seven will be back-to-back home contests for the gridiron Trojans. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will travel to Moorhead on Thursday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. kickoff and Northeast Mississippi Community College will play at Jim Randall Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.

Mississippi Delta’s final regular season road game will be on Saturday, Oct. 22 in Fulton (Itawamba CC) at 3:30 p.m., which is also ICC’s homecoming game. The Trojans homecoming game and final home contest of the season is Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m.

The 2016 MACJC State Playoffs begin with the semifinal match up on November 5. Those games will be played on the campuses of the two colleges who win their division. The title game will be held on November 12.

The state champion earns the right to participate in the ninth annual Mississippi Bowl played in Biloxi.

Trojan Football visits Rosser Elementary

Rosser Elementary School in Moorhead Tuesday afternoon. After the game, the players and coaches reminded the youngsters to obey their teachers and parents and have fun in everything they do.

 

Trojan football prepares for first tryout

Tryouts will be on the field, weather permitting, along with some indoor drills. Testing may include but not limited to height and weight measurements, 20-yard shuttle, 40-yard dash, standing broad jump, bench press, vertical jump and agilities and football positional drills.

Trojans Named To All-State Football Team

Seven Mississippi Delta Community College football players have been named to the All-State first and second teams for the 2014 season.

Named to the first team All-State Offense for the North was sophomore defensive back/returner Cedric Poole (5-10, 192 of Birmingham, AL). Poole had 43 tackles, 32 solo, during the 2014 season and averaged 17 yards per kickoff return.

Named to the second team All-State Offense North was wide receiver Derrick Jenkins (5-9, 180 of Benoit), running back Roshard Burney (5-11, 219 of West Palm Beach, FL), and linemen Josh Cooper (6-1, 315 of Yazoo City) and Edrick Thigpen (6-3, 325 of Drew). Derrick Jenkins had 29 receptions for 317 yards (10.0 average) and four touchdowns. Roshard Burney had 614 yards on 111 carries (6.6 yard average).

Named to the second team All-State Defense North was defensive lineman Jordan Washington (6-3, 265 of Atlanta, GA) and defensive back Denarius Howard (6-1, 190 of Greenwood). Howard had 53 tackles, 34 solo, and four interceptions.
