Jessica Tedford of Drew, Miss. was crowned the winner of the Miss Mississippi Delta Community College Scholarship Pageant Nov. 10, 2014 at MDCC’s Moorhead, Miss. campus.

Tedford was crowned by outgoing Miss MDCC Hannah Leflore of Greenwood, Miss. Tedford was presented roses by Dr. Edward Rice, vice president of student services, and a title sash by Leflore.

Contestant Taylor Couey of Rosedale, Miss. was named first alternate. Kiviyon Jones of Greenville, Miss. was named second alternate. Nine MDCC students competed in the categories of talent, evening wear, interview, and swimsuit.

The pageant is directed by Ms. Stacy Upton and is sponsored by the college, the MDCC Development Foundation, Inc., and the MDCC Alumni Association. The college provides a tuition scholarship for students returning to MDCC the next academic year. The Alumni and Foundation provide a stipend for wardrobe and fees associated with the Miss Mississippi Pageant.

Miss Mississippi is a scholarship pageant and state preliminary of Miss America. Mississippi Delta Community College holds a local pageant each year as a preliminary to the Miss Mississippi Pageant.

Kaylan Frye Crowned Miss MDCC

Mississippi Delta Community College Sophomore Kaylan Frye of Leland, Miss., was crowned the winner of the Miss MDCC Scholarship Pageant Feb. 25 at MDCC's Moorhead, Miss., campus.

Frye was presented her Miss Mississippi Delta Community College title sash by Dr. Ed Rice, vice president of student services, and was crowned by Miss Delta State University 2014, Brianna Sturgis.

The daughter of Lisa Bush and Judge Cedric Bush of Leland, Frye will immediately begin her year of service to MDCC, which includes speaking at area alumni meetings, attending campus events, and traveling around the school's seven-county district to promote MDCC. In addition, she will prepare to represent MDCC at the Miss Mississippi Pageant to be held July 9 through 12, 2014 in Vicksburg.

At the Miss Mississippi pageant, Frye will continue to focus on her Miss MDCC pageant platform, "Closure is needed." She says, "My platform attempts to encourage continued work on cold criminal cases, especially with regards to homicides. I believe it is important to bring closure to the families that have lost loved ones."

Other 2014 Miss MDCC contestants included: Shannon McKinney of Indianola, Miss., Reed McNeer of Greenwood, Miss., and Sakita Jones of Indianola, Miss. During the pageant's talent competition, McKinney performed a vocal rendition of "Fever", made popular by Peggy Lee, McNeer sang the inspirational song, "Washed by the Water", by Need To Breathe, and Jones performed a jazz routine to "Trumpet Lights", made popular by Chris Brown. The newly crowned Miss MDCC, Kaylan Frye, performed in mime to the song, "Overflow", by Israel & New Breed.

The College, the MDCC Development Foundation, Inc., and the MDCC Alumni Association sponsor the Miss MDCC Scholarship Pageant. MDCC's Alumni Association and Foundation provide scholarships to the pageant winner. The College also provides a tuition scholarship for students returning to MDCC the following academic year.

Miss Mississippi is a scholarship pageant and state preliminary of Miss America. Mississippi Delta Community College holds a local pageant each year as a preliminary to the Miss Mississippi Pageant. The state pageant began in 1934, has been held in Vicksburg since 1958, and provides more money than most other scholarship pageants in the Miss America Organization. The contestants are judged in talent, evening wear, interview, and swimsuit.

Miss MDCC Scholarship Pageant Postponed

Due to inclement weather, the Miss MDCC Scholarship Pageant that had been scheduled for tonight has been postponed.  It will be rescheduled at a later date.

A pageant meeting for students interested in competing in the Miss MS Delta Community College Scholarship Pageant will be held tomorrow - Wednesday, January 15 at 2:00pm in JT Hall Coliseum Dance Office.
