Lamb named February Staff Member of the Month

Rosemary Craven Lamb, Ph.D., of Moorhead, was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College’s Staff Member of the Month for February. Lamb is the associate vice president for institutional effectiveness and accreditation liaison at MDCC.

Lamb provides direction and oversight for institutional assessment, student learning assessment, institutional research, strategic planning initiatives, and accreditation compliance standards. She also assists in writing grants for the college.

Lamb has also led MDCC’s accreditation efforts for its 10-year review by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This is her third year at Mississippi Delta.

She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Jackson State University, a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Mississippi, and a bachelor's degree in English from Delta State University.

Lamb and her husband, Chuck, have three children, Adrian Rose Dill, Darby Lamb and Leah Lamb Rybolt, and five grandchildren, Andrew, Will, Ben, Emma and Grace.

In 2015, the Southeastern Association of Community College Research (SACCR) honored Dr. Lamb with the Gwen P. Aldridge Award and the Outstanding Paper Award for her quantitative research on Student Engagement Factors that Predict the Persistence of Latino Males in America’s Community Colleges.

In 2013, the Mississippi Association for Institutional Research awarded Lamb the Jim Nichols Service Award, the highest honor presented to an individual who has shown exemplary service and leadership to the organization.

Lamb has served as an accreditation evaluator for SACSCOC at community colleges across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Virginia.

She has also served as president of the Mississippi Association for Institutional Research, Member at Large of the Southeastern Association for Community College Research, and as a member of the SACSCOC Annual Conference Planning Committee. She is currently serving as treasurer of the Southeastern Association for Community College Research.

Lamb is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Indianola and an active member of the IOTA Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society.

Amber Kelly, of Belzoni, was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College’s Staff Member of the Month for January. Kelly is the director of financial aid.

Her daily responsibilities include assisting students in obtaining Financial Aid at the federal state and institutional levels.

“I enjoy seeing students we help in the Office of Financial Aid succeed and reach their maximum potential,” said Kelly.

Kelly earned an Associate of Arts degree from MDCC, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mississippi Valley State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Delta State University.

She was awarded the Trojan Spirit Award in 2014-15 and is a member of the Mississippi Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Mississippi Community and Junior College Student Aid Administrators Association.

carterMOORHEAD – Shelia Carter was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College's Staff Member of the Month for March. Carter serves as MDCC's Health Science Navigator.

An MDCC employee for nine years, her daily responsibilities include coordinating with students, instructors and community stakeholders to alleviate barriers to students’ success. She considers her greatest achievement to be helping establish and define the role of her position.

“This allowed me the opportunity to positively impact health science students in such a fashion that the administration recognized the need to duplicate the position across academic and career technical disciplines,” she says.

Carter and her husband Anwar have two daughters, Najawa and Anasia.

Kristy Bariola of Greenwood, was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College's Staff Member of the Month for February. Bariola serves as MDCC's director of library services.

An MDCC employee for 7 years, her daily responsibilities include maintaining up-to-date electronic and print resources, managing the libraries activities and helping students research an item.

An MDCC employee for 10 years, her daily responsibilities include ordering online books for students and assembling visual displays with merchandise.

“I get to use my artistic ability to set up displays and arrangements,” she said. “I am fortunate to have a boss who allows me some creative freedom to do this.”

Teresa Smith named Staff Member of the Month

Teresa F. Smith of Isola, Miss., was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College's Staff Member of the Month for November. Smith serves as MDCC's adult basic education/GED coordinator.

An MDCC employee for 15 years, Smith said her favorite part of the job is seeing students earn their GED and enroll in college.

"I love, love, love seeing students return years later with a degree and a job," she said. “My job is so rewarding.”

Smith’s job duties include administering the GED test, entering student data and coordinating with instructors.

Melaney Emerson of Moorhead, Miss., was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College's Staff Member of the Month for October. Emerson serves as MDCC's webmaster and public relations coordinator.

Thomas Cole of Sunflower, Miss., was selected by his co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College’s Staff Member of the Month for September. Thomas serves MDCC as a maintenance technician and groundskeeper on the main campus in Moorhead, Miss.

“The most enjoyable part of my job at MDCC is staying busy and working with great people,” says Cole. An MDCC employee for 11 years, his daily responsibilities include maintaining a clean, neat and well- kept campus area.

Pamela J. Venton of Greenville was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College’s Staff Member of the Month for July. Venton, a college employee for 18 years, currently serves MDCC as a counselor at the College’s Greenville Higher Education Center. She also serves as a staff advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. “The most enjoyable part of my job at MDCC is the daily interaction with students,” says Venton.

Jackie Bailey of Moorhead was selected by her co-workers as Mississippi Delta Community College's Staff Member of the Month for March. Bailey serves as a technology specialist if the college's Office of Admissions.

"The most enjoyable part of my job at MDCC is working students," says Bailey. An MDCC employee for 20 years, her daily responsibilities include entering admissions data, evaluating students for graduation, and providing overall support to students.
