Trojans Split With Southwest, TN

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans opened their 2015 season by splitting a double header with the Southwest TN Community College Saluqis losing the first game 7-0 while winning the night cap 13-10.

In game one the Saluqis scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings before blowing the game open with a four run top of the seventh. Southwest’s seven runs came off 11 hits. The Trojans had two hits in the game, both singles by Jordan Lambert and Michael Beloso.

The Mississippi Delta bats came alive in the first inning of game two when the Trojans scored nine runs off eight hits including three run homers by Matt Ray and Demarcus Mahone.

Southwest answered with four runs off five hits in the top of the second inning and then tied the game at 9-all with five runs off four hits in the top of the third inning. The Trojans took an 11-9 lead in the bottom of the frame when Jordan Lambert drove in two more runs with a double.

The Saluqis got a run in the top of the fifth and the Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the inning before the game was called on account of darkness.

The Trojans next action is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at home against Motlow State Community College out of Lynchburg, TN. Friday’s game will be a single, nine inning affair and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The teams will play a pair of seven inning games Saturday. First pitch is 1 p.m.
