Trojans Lose To Hinds

The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball team took on the No.2 team in the nation today, the Hinds Community College Eagles, and was defeated 8-3 in game one and 7-2 in game two.

In game one the Eagles scored three runs in the first, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth while the Trojans could only manage one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth innings. Delta’s three runs came on five hits with five errors and five men left on base. The Eagles eight runs came on just four hits with two errors and five men left on base.

Kyle Wilson took the loss on the mound for the Trojans giving up three runs and no hits with two walks. Ayreon Davis led MDCC at the plate with one hit and one RBI. Ty Dean and Peyton Callahan got one hit each and scored one run apiece while Jordan Lambert and Clay LaBeff added a hit each.

Game two was a scoreless battle until the bottom of the fourth when the Eagles scored four runs. They added three more in the sixth inning while the Trojans scored their two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Delta’s two runs came on four hits with one error and six men left on base. Hinds seven runs came on 14 hits with one error and four men left stranded.

Ty Dean had two hits and an RBI while Jordan Lambert had one hit and scored one run and Matt Ray added a hit. Austin Burdine took the loss going four complete innings while giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out two batters.

The Trojans finished the day with a 5-6 overall record. The next regularly scheduled game is set for Wednesday against Southwest Mississippi Community College at Summit. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
