Trojans Split With Pearl River

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans split a conference double header with Pearl River Community College Saturday at Moorhead with the Wildcats winning game one 12-2 and the Trojans taking game two 3-1.

In game one the first inning ended in a 1-1 tie before the Wildcats jumped on MDCC’s pitching scoring four runs in the fourth inning on a grand slam homer. The Trojans answered with another run in the bottom of the second and that would be it for the day. Pearl River added one run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and then piled on four more to end the game in the eighth.

The Wildcats scored 12 runs on 14 hits and left 11 runners stranded on base. The Trojans two runs came on four hits with four runners left on base.

In game two the Wildcats again scored one run, a solo homer on the first pitch of the game, but that would be it offensively for Pearl River. The Trojans answered with a run in the bottom of the second and then scored two more runs in the third to earn the split.

Pearl River scored one run on four hits with eight runners left on base while the Trojans scored three runs on seven hits and left five runners stranded.

The split brings Mississippi Delta’s overall record to 15-20 and evens their conference record at 9-9 while the Wildcats moved to 10-26 overall and 4-16 in conference play.

The Trojans’ next action is scheduled for Tuesday at Clarksdale against Coahoma Community College. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
