Trojans Sweep Coahoma

The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans swept the Coahoma Community College Tigers in baseball Tuesday at Clarksdale winning game one 8-1 and game two 5-2.

In game one the Trojans opened the game with a two run first inning. They added one run in the fourth, three in the sixth, and finished out the game with s two run ninth inning. The Tigers’ lone run came in the bottom of the third inning.

Mississippi Delta scored eight runs on 12 hits with no errors and left a whopping 14 runners on base. The Tigers scored one run on seven hits with one error and left 10 runners stranded. Matt Dean led Delta at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. He was followed by Ty Dean with three hits and one RBI and Clay LaBeff with two hits and three RBIs. Also getting hits were Jordan Lambert, Ayreon Davis, Will Costinett, and Caleb Brown.

Kyle Wilson took the win on the mound for the Trojans going six innings and giving up just one run on six hits with five strikeouts and only one walk. Tyler Dowdy closed the game giving up just one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.

In game two the Trojans one run in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth while the Tigers scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth. MDCC’s five runs came on 10 hits with one error and 11 runners left on base. The Tigers two runs came on just two hits with one error and three men left on base.

Ty Dean and DeShawn Lindsey had two hits each. Matt Ray had one hit and an RBI while drawing two walks in the game. Clay LaBeff, Michael Beloso, Ayreon Davis, Will Costinett, and Caleb Brown all had a hit apiece.

Tre Hobbs took the win throwing a complete game while giving up two runs on two hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

The Trojans’ overall record improves to 17-20 while their conference record moves to 11-9 which is good enough for seventh place in state as of Wednesday.

The next game for the Trojans, a conference double header against No. 6 Jones Junior College (11-7 conference, 24-10 overall), has been moved to Thursday (from Saturday) and will be played at Delta State University due to the prospect of rain this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
