GED testing can now only be taken on a computer at an official testing site. Mississippi Delta Community College is a testing site and is offering free classes to prepare students with the skills to pass this new computer-based High School Equivalence Test.

The Adult Basic Education instruction offers adults the opportunity to prepare for high school equivalency, college entrance, career-technical education, employment and/or promotion on the job. The classes are free of charge with no cost for books and other materials. Individuals advance at their own rate of speed using materials designed for the adult. Traditional textbook instruction is combined with individualized computer-based instruction and tutoring.

The Adult Basic Education/GED program enrolled 780 students during the 2013-2014 school term and eighty-one (81) students received their GED credentials. “Whether a student obtains his/her GED (High School Equivalence), enters employment, or enters post-secondary education we all rejoice in the gain(s). It is very rewarding to see the students celebrate their success,” says Teresa Smith, director of adult education at MDCC.

Preparation for General Educational Development (GED) test includes the subject areas of Writing Skills/English, Mathematics, Literature and the Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

This tuition-free program is available to adults who are 18 years or older and are not enrolled in school.
