Nursing Students Host Blood Drive

MDCC student Sydney Woodard, a sophomore dental hygiene major from Inverness, Miss., donates blood with the help of Mississippi Blood Services phlebotomist Cynethia Coleman.

MDCC’s Associate Degree Nursing Program recently hosted a blood drive on the college’s Moorhead, Miss., campus.

MDCC’s nursing program sponsored the blood drive to assist in the statewide blood shortage. According to Mississippi Blood Services, there is currently a critical need for donations of O negative, O positive, B negative, B positive and AB negative blood.

In partnership with Mississippi Blood Services, several student groups sponsor blood drives on all MDCC campuses throughout the year. “We are proud that our campus community takes a few minutes of their time throughout the semester to donate blood,” says Dr. Edward Rice, vice president of student services. “A few minutes out of our daily schedule can mean a lifetime for patients, their families and friends.”
