Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) recognized Mississippi Delta Community College as the state's Community College of the Year during an annual event recently held in Jackson. Based in Moorhead, Miss., Mississippi Delta Community College has partnered with Mississippi Blood Services for the last decade by hosting at least three to four blood drives each semester.

Dr. Edward Rice, Vice President of Student Services at Mississippi Delta Community College, was on hand to accept the award. "I'm very proud of our students, faculty and staff for their efforts in hosting blood drives each semester," states Rice. "MDCC's health sciences and students services departments, along with campus groups including the Beta Rho Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Society and the Trojan Football team, have each played a major role in hosting blood drives on our campuses."

According to a recent press announcement by Mississippi Blood Services, "The College encourages students, faculty and staff to donate, not just promoting blood donations with their words but with their sleeves rolled up. They have several organizations on campus that strive to get the message out and recruit donors-Mississippi Delta Community College is a true champion for Mississippi Blood Services. If there is a degree in charitable giving, MDCC offers an outstanding program and their students are masters in the discipline."
