MDCC announces 90th Anniversary & homecoming day events

Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) will celebrate its 2016 Homecoming Oct. 24-29 with a variety of activities including a grilling contest, homecoming parade and the crowning of the homecoming queen. The week of activities lead up to a daylong celebration of the College’s 90th Anniversary Saturday, Oct. 29 that culminates with the football game against Coahoma Community College.

The MDCC Alumni Association will host the Homecoming Breakfast beginning Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8:30 a.m. in the Vandiver Student Union. Immediately following at 9 a.m., the Alumni Awards Ceremony will include recognition of the 2016-17 alumni scholarship students, the MDJC Class of 1966, and recipients of the Trojan Spirit Award, the Distinguished Trojan Service Award, and Alumnus of the Year.

The annual Homecoming Parade begins Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. on the Moorhead campus. The parade will march north down Johnny Russell Street, turn left on Washington Street, go through downtown, turn left on Delta Avenue, turn right on Olive Street, and a final left turn onto Lucas Street to end on campus.

The Legacy Luncheon and Homecoming Concert will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Trojan Grove, which is located beside the newly constructed Vandiver Student Union. The Players will perform during this year’s concert.

The 90th Anniversary Ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Trojan Grove, which includes special awards and a Building Dedication Ceremony. The homecoming court and other special guests will be recognized at the pregame presentation starting at 2 p.m. at Jim Randall Stadium.

Kickoff for the football game is slated for 2:30 p.m. MDCC’s Spirit of the Delta Marching Band will perform along with the Delta Dancers.
