Second annual Fresh Check Day approaches

MOORHEAD - Mississippi Delta Community College will hold its second Fresh Check Day on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vandiver Student Union on its Moorhead campus.

Fresh Check Day, created by the Jordan Porco Foundation, aims to create an approachable atmosphere where college students are encouraged to engage in dialogue about mental health and connect with campus and community mental wellness resources.

The mental health and suicide prevention event includes interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, free food, entertainment, and exciting giveaways. Multiple campus departments and groups are involved.

“This day is so productive. At our first event, we had so many conversations with students about their personal experiences with suicide, and I felt as though we offered avenues of help. It was an incredible event! We made it easier to reach out for information,” says MDCC Greenwood counselor Katie Jones.

This second, expanded Fresh Check Day will feature food trucks, music, activities and prize drawings. MDCC thanks Mitchell Distributing especially for its continued civic engagement and support of this event.
