Mississippi Delta Community College student Christin Manor was recognized recently as the Higher Education Awareness Day Working toward Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) student of the year for 2014.

Sponsored by the Mississippi legislature, the award honors academically talented students and faculty members of Mississippi’s higher education institutions who have made outstanding contributions in promoting academic excellence.

A Hollandale native, Christin Manor is a sophomore at MDCC and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and the Delta Delegation. She is the daughter of Robert and Gail Manor, both alumni of Mississippi Delta Community College. After graduating from MDCC, Manor plans to attend Delta State University and then medical school.

Manor is among the state’s honorees invited to the Mississippi Capitol for Higher Education Appreciation Day. The goal of Appreciation Day is to encourage excellence among those involved in higher education as a way to further leadership, increase knowledge across the broad spectrum of education, and promote good citizens capable of thriving in today’s society and prepared to meet future challenges. To this end, one student and faculty honoree are annually selected from each of the 36 public and private member institutions of the Mississippi Association of Colleges to participate in the Appreciation Day activities.
