Lady Trojans notch 81-75 win over Coahoma

MDCC Lady Trojans defeated the Tigers of Coahoma Community College Monday at J.T. Hall Coliseum by a score of 81-75.

The hard fought contest left CCC playing catch up for most of the first half after the Lady Trojans jumped on top and scored 10 unanswered points.

Head Coach Burnadette McDonald’s team would battle against the Tigers to carry the lead until 2:00 minutes left in the first half when CCC went ahead 37-35.

The Lady Tigers would go to the locker room up 39-37.

Down by two coming back from the break, the Lady Trojans would step it up a notch and challenge the Tigers in the second half forcing turnovers and turning them into scoring drives.

The Lady Trojans would regain the lead half way through the third period of play carry it through to the end.

CCC continually chipped away by adding points on the board, but could never quite catch the Lady Trojans.

Freshman guard Alexis Augustus would score a game and career high 28 points on the night and pull down six rebounds.

Sophomore forward O’Nesha Hunt would help in the score department by racking up 14 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Other scorers for the Lady Trojans were India Sims (8 pts.), Asiah Ward (7 pts.), Ariana Sims (7 pts.), Markeita Morris (4 pts.), Cora Cooley (2 pts.) and Madisyn Collie (1 pts.).

With the win, the Lady Trojans improve to 2-13 (1-5) on the season.

They travel to Goodman Monday night to play against the Bulldogs of Holmes Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
