Wayne “Nick” Morken, Class of 1980

Basketball, Baseball, & Tennis

Morken played Basketball, one year as an outfielder for the Trojan Baseball Team, and a year of Tennis as a sophomore. He played on the Number 2 doubles team the provided the 13th point that allowed the Trojans to capture the state championship in Tennis.

Morken signed to play with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was named All-Southern Conference in Basketball and Volleyball. He led the Mocs Basketball Team to two Southern Conference Championships. In 1981 Morken was named MVP of the Southern Conference Tournament and helped the Mocs go to the NCAA Tournament. In 1982 he was named MVP of the NCAA first round tournament game by ESPN and was MVP for the Mocs.

Morken earned a BS in Health & Physical Education and a Master’s in Administration.

Nick played and coached professional basketball in Australia for three years helping the Rainbow Coast Raiders to a league title.

Morken then coached high school basketball for 10 years and collegiate ball for 12 years earning numerous Coach of the Year honors.
