Jimmy Childers

Jimmy Childers, Class of 1971

During Childers sophomore year he earned the MVP and spot on the Mississippi All-State Team as a guard. Jimmy was a recipient of the J.D. Stonestreet award, which is presented annually to the top sophomore male athlete.

Childers went to Delta State University where he was a member of the golf team for two years. In 1973 he graduated with a B.S.E. and went on to earn in his Master’s Degree in 1978.

Jimmy Childers went to work for the Mississippi Department of Corrections after leaving DSU and worked as a Vocational Counselor for the next 28 years until his retirement in 2002.

Childers became the Guidance Counselor at Indianola Academy since his retirement from the Department of Corrections.
