Robert “Bobby” Tackett, Class of 1956

Bobby was a member of the “S” Club both his freshman and sophomore years. His freshman year the Trojans went 7-3. During his sophomore year Sunflower Junior College had a 8-1 season and was selected to play in the first ever Mississippi Hospitality Bowl in Biloxi.

Tackett went on to play two years for Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA where he helped the Demons win back –to- back conference championships. In his senior year Bobby was selected to the All-Gulf States Conference Team as a guard and linebacker.

After graduation Tackett pursued teaching and coaching. During his career his teams won 73 percent of their games and he was named Coach of the Year on 10 different occasions. Tackett was a high school principal for 17 years.

After retiring Bobby took a job teaching at the Carroll/Montgomery Correctional Facility where in 2007 he was named Teacher of the Year.
