Lex Cain, Class of 1948

In the 1946-’47 season Cain’s team only lost three games during regular season play and finished second in the State Tournament. Lex received All-State recognition for his outstanding play. During the 1947-’48 season the Trojans again only lost three games during the regular season and won the State Championship.

Cain went on to Bethel College in McKenzie, TN, where he averaged 15 points a game his first year. He earned MVP accolades in 1952 as a senior after averaging 22 points a game.

Lex Cain wen on to devote 40 years to the education of young people in Northeast Mississippi serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and finally as Superintendent of Education for Prentiss County.

Cain was the first superintendent in the state to receive a meritorious Award from the Mississippi Personnel & Guidance Association for outstanding contributions to the guidance movement.
